The Doctoral School in Letters, Arts, and Human Sciences

The Doctoral School of Letters, Arts, and Human Sciences (ED08FLSHS01) coordinates the training and research curriculum of more than 220 doctoral students in a very broad disciplinary range including Literature, Language, and Civilizations studies (Arabic and foreign), Musicology, and the Human Sciences (Philosophy, Geography, History, Sociology).

The established doctoral disciplines are as follows:  

• History

• Geography

• Philosophy

• Sociology

• Arabic Language, Literature, and Civilization

• French Language, Literature, and Civilization

• English Language, Literature, and Civilization

• Musicology and Musical Mediology

 

The Doctoral School endeavors to create synergies between the research laboratories attached to it. These include:

• The Laboratory on Approaches to Discourse (LAD)

• The Laboratory of Language and Automatic Processing (LLTA)

• The Laboratory of Interdisciplinary and Comparative Studies and Research (LERIC)

• The Laboratory of Arab Maghreb: (OMRANE PLURIEL)

• The Laboratory of Interpretive Methods (METINT)

• The Laboratory of Geographic Information System, Training in Planning, Cartography, Remote Sensing and Environment (SYFACTE)

• The Laboratory of Speech, Art, Music, and Economy (LARIDIAME)

• The Laboratory of State, Culture, and Changes in Society (ECUMUS)

*The Laboratory Interdsciplnary and Transcultural Approches to Philosophy, Arts and Humanities (PHILIAS)

 

 The Doctoral School’s role is to provide doctoral students with research training and assistance to promote their theses with a view to their future professional integration. To this end, the Doctoral School makes the following specifications available to doctoral students:

- Adequate research conditions

- Ongoing supervision

- Additional training in disciplines directly linked to students’ specialized training

 - The opportunity to work within a team or in an appropriate scientific environment

- The possibility of promoting an entrepreneurial culture by carrying out internships and stays in an appropriate professional environment

- An opening to the national and international extra-academic world

- The possibility of benefiting from multifaceted financial support

- A support and digital system allowing the valorization of master's dissertations and doctoral theses at the time of submission, classification, printing, and distribution

- Any useful information likely to facilitate the professional integration of graduates.

 

The Doctoral School provides its students with a range of resources including:

Research contracts

Students wishing to participate in the competition organized by the Doctoral School must submit a file including the work program and the necessary supporting documents. For this purpose, concerned students are required to fill in an application form available at the Doctoral School office.

• The application file must reach the Doctoral School desk either through the head of the research structure to which the student belongs or through the research supervisor for other students.

• In this respect, the Doctoral School can offer the following programs:

- Grants for activities carried out as part of the preparation of the thesis (participation in scientific events, internships, trips, surveys, etc.)

- Conferences, seminars, study days, symposiums, and training workshops, specialized or multidisciplinary, organized by the Doctoral School

- A digital database (theses file, etc.)

- Other means available within the framework of cooperative relations with other Tunisian or foreign institutions, such as doctoral schools, research centers, universities, etc. (in the forms of work-study scholarships, internships, laboratories, libraries, etc.).

These different means are provided according to the availability of the budget and the adequateness of the research into the scientific and methodological orientations of the Doctoral School.
